What is a god clone in Rust?

A god clone is a plant with six good genes and no bad ones, usually GGGYYY or GGYYYY. Clones copy their parent's genes exactly, so once you have one you can fill every planter with it.

The most produce per hour, but more harvesting and replanting.

GGYYYY

Biggest

Bigger harvests and four clones per cut instead of three (per Facepunch's wiki). A little slower, much less replanting.

G makes a plant grow faster through every stage, Y gives more produce and more clones per cut. The bad genes are W (needs more water) and X (does nothing), so a god clone has none of either. What each letter does

How to get one

  1. Collect seeds. Wild plants drop seeds with random genes. Ten to twenty different ones of a single plant type is a good start.
  2. Plant them and clone each one while it's a Sapling, then note its six genes.
  3. Enter the genes in Godclone. It works out which of your clones to plant around which in a planter, and in what order.
  4. Plant it with the right timing (when to plant), check the genes once it's Mature, and clone the winner.

Short of a god clone? Anything with four or more greens and no reds already farms well: get rid of the reds first, polish later.
